New York NY Day 1

Woke to fog horn this morning and a few holes in the road.

Chariot out today.

Usual at sea day.

Lunch a Pizza for a change

Fog cleared late afternoon, a few bumps in the road, so chariot out today, Pop Choir rehearsal in the Wheelhouse Bar below.

Last day at sea before Saint John’s Canada

Foggy wet morning turned into a beautiful afternoon, Our ship was manoeuvred through the 100 metre wide harbour entrance to berth town side by 9am. By 10:30 the rain had cleared and we went for a walk through the town.

Small problem, the main  and next street up the hill required a long detour to avoid the stairs.

Each street parallel to ship but up a level

Wake show production while we had our morning coffee

Fog so thick, back of ship was disappearing from our balcony.

Back home for lunch and a rest.

Kevin decided to go out and look for a Fridge Magnet for “She who must be obeyed”.

Beautiful sunny warm afternoon.

You can see how close to the town we were.

Time to leave Saint John’s, many whales to see after we pass through the narrow harbour exit.

Trivia, Clem from our table has calculated we are paying 50 cents a kilometre each for the World Cruise, much less than a taxi costs but this includes, meals, accommodation, entertainment, room cleaning with chocolates on the turned down bed each night and do not forget laundry.

Calmer seas today, free Champagne at the rerun on screen of last sector’s Pop Choir in the Vista Lounge.

More whale sightings today

Smooth seas when the sea fog lifted

Formal and Production Show tonight.

Sea fog lifted around lunch time when Kevin went up for lunch.

Special desert today but resisted by Kevin

Pop Choir performance in the Atrium, started with 4 people in chairs on the stage but rest appeared as soon as music started.

$45 for map from photo studio, no thanks

Because of the currents in the Hudson River we docked at 2am when the tide was minimal. Woke at 1:30am by a Party Boat under our balcony, but this meant the shots below were not missed.

Our Wharf next to Intrepid

Could not be in a better location, great view of the Intrepid Museum (and slow but free Wifi from it).

Where else do you berth with a Space Shuttle, Concord, Sub with Missile ready to fire, Stealth bomber and Aircraft carrier all within 100 metres of our balcony.

After nearly two hours of Immigration we finally were on US soil and free to explore, below is what we accomplished on day 1 in New York. Looks small but there are 135 blocks or Streets left to right or East to West. Avenues North to South. Heatwave today in low 40s.

1. Shuttle to Times Square

6. Walk the 12 to 14 blocks to Macy’s and back to night bus pickup.

3 Uptown Bus loop to Central Park

2. Walk around Times Square area

4. Central Park walking for 90 minutes

5. Return to Times Square by completing to Uptown Loop

7. Night Loop to Brooklyn and return

First queue, on the ship, then an hour through immigration before we were released and onto the Hop on Rip off bus to Times Square

Spent an hour or so around Times Square, WC and Coffee then above Anne waiting in the shade for next bus.

The temperature was in the 40s and most buses had faulty Air conditioning.

Hot food stalls not doing much business on such a hot day.

Above and below a 130 storey apartment block with top floor priced at $US270 million

We left the Bus at stop 24 and explored a small part of Central Park for about 90 minutes.

Back to Times Square, Anne downstairs with only a fan and Kevin upstairs.

Distances are so deceptive from the maps, Kevin did 18,000 steps today.

Stayed in city for 7pm night light tour with lights just turning on at the end of the hour tour. Anne downstairs in the sauna, Kevin deserted her and went upstairs.

Back home by 9pm after a very full day in New York

New York NY Day 2

Much easier day planned, first a 10:30am, 65 minutes cruise down to the Statue of Liberty and back

After our cruise, we spent a few hours exploring the Intrepid Museum.

In hindsight, we made the best decision to stay near the ship, as traffic uptown was much worse than it was on Sunday.

Time to return home, have a much needed shower after two hot days, storms forecast for our sailaway.

We end our time in New York with Emergency message on our phones.

The Intrepid was wheelchair friendly and we spent a few hours exploring.

Thankfully wheelchair got us to the front of the queue
